Extra Credit

When I first googled Cindy Sherman, I questioned whether I had copied her name correctly. A self-portrait? What does that have to do with Lady Gaga? Then, I clicked on the google images. I saw a picture of of Cindy Sherman with bizarre make-up and a seductive pose. The resemblance between her and the modern pop queen was suddenly uncanny. 

If I were to describe Cindy Sherman in one word, it would be bold. This adjective also applies to Lady Gaga. Both women strive for the public's attention, and utilize their sexuality in the process. They both challenge previous public conceptions with modern, and often controversial ideas. These ideas often concerning the power and role of a woman. Although both have been criticized for their eccentric attitudes and styles, many applaud their innovation and pioneering a new and unexplored frontier.

After reading about Cindy Sherman and browsing her numerous self-portraits, I see the connection between her and Lady Gaga. Although one is a famous pop star, and one a photographer, both are artists, painting a new and sometimes disturbing picture.
