SWA #7

Nancy Bauer presents a topic to the general public that is extremely relevant to the sexual-infiltration and materialization that our culture has become dependent on. Her argument is motivated by her observations of the characteristics of women today. She recognizes the power of sex in the media, and understands the influence it has on whoever partakes in it. This constant exposure to something that is telling women that's what their purpose is creates such an effect that she criticizes in her article. She emphasizes why women have created themselves into "objects"; because the media is telling women it is their position of power. The majority of her audience has not been exposed to such a belief, which is why Bauer's kairotics are relevant. She exemplifies she is in touch with the modern culture; opening her argument with an analysis of current pop queen Lady Gaga and cites the various accounts of college students.

  1. I completely agree with your points, especially incorporating kairos because timing is such an important issue for what Bauer is trying to present. I also think you could use ethos in your argument because she has a teenage daughter who is striving to be just like these pop queens she is so concerned about.

  2. I like how you touched on the fact that Bauer is very up to date with the current media - especially considering she is well aware of Lady Gaga. Also, I like how your writing flows from broad to narrow. You mention women's power and influence in the media and eventually touch on Bauer's comparison regarding Lady Gaga.
